We've ALMOST got a HOME. Diesel Heat, Arched Walls, & Front Door!
Hola amiguis and hello to any and all new bus lifers, van lifers, and Bus Conversion Enthusiasts!
Welcome back to our epic bus conversion journey! In this episode, we’re tackling some major upgrades to make our skoolie feel more like home. We’re installing not one, but TWO diesel heaters to keep us cozy no matter where our adventures take us or how harsh the climates may be. We’re also adding beautiful arched interior walls that give our bus a unique, stylish touch. And say goodbye to the old bifold bus doors, even though they've been out for a while! We’re adding a sleek steel residential door with a large glass panel for natural light, driving safety, and aesthetics.
If you're dreaming of van life or planning your own bus conversion, our channel is packed with inspiration and tips. Whether you're looking for ways to install diesel heaters, build custom walls, or find the best van upfitters, we've got you covered.

We install 2 mini splits in our Bus Conversion!
Переглядів 3,9 тис.21 день тому
*Mini Splits we used for the school bus conversion* - *Front* amzn.to/3UQdKit *Back* amzn.to/4dP5hV6 We're starting this week off in preparation of building our interior walls in the skoolie build. It's long overdue and we can finally check it off the list. Somehow, adding walls this time has actually made the bus feel even larger. It's a damn geographical oddity. The most exciting news however...

We're running out of time // Skoolie Build Ep. 15
Переглядів 3,2 тис.Місяць тому
To say we're running out of time on this conversion would be a dramatic and drastic understatement. Mid June is coming quick. We're putting some finishing touches to our DIY cabinets and to our windows by finally framing everything out and it's really tying everything together. We're about ready to frame the rest of our walls now so we can finish our plumbing, but that's something for another v...

Join us in another exciting episode as we transform our school bus into a luxury wabi-sabi inspired tiny home on wheels! In today's video, we face the colorful challenge of painting the interior for the sixth time-finding the perfect hue isn't as easy as it seems! Special guests @FnAVanLife dropped by for a visit, and we didn’t just catch up-we put Frankie to work! Watch in additional episodes ...
A bus ceiling that ISN'T tongue and groove! // Skoolie Build Ep. 13
Переглядів 4,4 тис.2 місяці тому
In most school bus to tiny home conversions people install plank wood or tongue and groove ceilings. This is for simplicity sake as well as aesthetics, but it's something we've seen too often in builds and we wanted to try our part to move away from that trend. In this video we're correcting an issue with our back windows, finding a good way to black out the lower sections that will be hidden b...

Building DIY luxury cabinets // Skoolie Build Ep. 12
Переглядів 5 тис.2 місяці тому
We've said it a few times now, but the transformation is ACTUALLY happening. This week we feel like the bus conversion is truly taking shape and feeling quite luxurious. You can really start to get a sense for the layout as well and we think this kitchen is going to be one of the most thought out and feeling like a resort out of any that we've likely ever seen. Don't worry about the dent on the...
Walls + Ceilings with perfect cuts! // Skoolie Build Ep. 11
Переглядів 4,2 тис.3 місяці тому
As per usual, there's a lot we're unpacking in this video. Welcome back to our bus conversion journey! In this episode, we're diving deep in the nitty-gritty of converting a school bus into a cozy tiny home. Get ready as we tackle key tasks, including installing plywood on our ceiling, creating precise cuts for windows, walls, and outlets using a CNC router, and expertly wiring our 12v lighting...

Would you just look at that! I guess we'll say... Challenge accepted. Stick around to find out what's in store for us with the rest of this build and beyond. This week we're unpacking a lot. We hope you enjoy condensed parts of each section of the build. We feel like it makes the flow of the video much more entertaining, rather than watching me wire a breaker panel for an hour. If there are par...
Sealing our roof + adding 2500W on a Skoolie // Skoolie Build Ep. 9
Переглядів 3,2 тис.4 місяці тому
I promised we're motoring on. This week is no exception and I absolutely refuse to let a little (a ton... a literal monsoon) of rain deter me from getting stuff done on this bus. Since getting the roof rails secured, The next logical step is painting the roof. We've used Henry Durabrite this go around and I'm not at a point to suggest or not suggest you using something similar. The bus is parke...
Closed Cell Spray Foam a Skoolie // Skoolie Build Ep. 8
Переглядів 3,8 тис.4 місяці тому
At least that's what Mariajosé had to say last week about the school bus turned tiny home conversion project. Besides trying to start an NSync inspire boyband this week, I'm installing our solar racking system. We're opting for Superstrut / Unistrut rather than something like Iron Ridge solar rails. We like to hang on to more of our hard earned money while working with a product that is perfect...
Deleting Skoolie Air Intakes & Adding Skylights // Skoolie Build Ep. 7

We're done... with demolition on our school bus conversion, finally. And all jokes aside, and truly all in good fun, Chay's bus did look really nice in the end, but please never ever put carpet and drywall in a bus or a van conversion. We're unloading a lot in this video and as you might be able to tell, for almost 6 weeks we weren't able to do much of anything on the bus. Good news though, we'...
The BEST WAY to delete windows! // Skoolie Build Ep. 6
Переглядів 3,5 тис.4 місяці тому
Don't get me wrong, I totally understand there's a price on labor and there's a price on the use and ownership of specialized machinery. HOWEVER, we were able to build 4 window deletes for the price of 1 from a supplier. Literally less than $38 per unit and it only took us 15 minutes per window delete, from cutting to completion. Save $100 OR MORE (especially factoring in shipping) per window d...
Framing a SKOOLIE the RIGHT WAY // Skoolie Build Ep. 5

We got our subfloor and insulation in just in time for Isla to start walking. So it's only appropriate to move to furring the entire bus and finalizing our layout in preparation for wiring, window skinning, and insulation (next week). More exciting news, we've added a CNC to our shop operations and I've been absolutely engulfed in designing and completing projects. So much that I'm considering ...

Y’all are doing amazing!!! The bus is gonna be the coolest place for the littles.
Aren't you concerned that the wall coating and paint will crack in a moving bus? Yes, I think darker colors in lime wash work best. I love the color of the bedroom. Some terracotta is a bit pinky/salmon. The color you put up was supposed to be my dining room. It ended up FAR MORE pink than your bedroom and darker. I'm falling in love with it. Have now seen it in other people's spaces and it looks good.
Best van i have ever seen. I love watching these kind of videos. And most of the time I think that some are not really that comfy to live in. But THIS. THIS IS THE VAN that i can actually live in. Love love love ♥️ Super comfy and functional. 💯
Awesome! keep up the progress! I can't wait to see the little baby! Also, I'm not going to make it to Skoolie UP after all. I just don't have enough time. I should be finished with my build by the end of August though. Hope to see you on the road soon.
Wow, this bus is starting to look like a real live house on wheels!! Chase is getting after it, distracted or not, it's looking mighty fine! Without a crew to bang it out, building is def slower, but it's looking fantastic and will be exactly what you want and need it to be in the end.
The baby here godbless all of you and enjoy time with each other
I cannot wait to see a beautiful bouncing baby boy in the next episode (or there abouts)! The bus build is looking very nice.
I was fascinated by the front door you added. I think it looks amazing. Hope you make good progress on the bus soon, even if the little one appears quickly. Good luck with your birth!
Thanks Anney! We hope so too. I think it's safe to say, he'll be here before the bus gets finished, but that's okay because then we won't have to rush anymore haha. Oh and we LOVE the front door too. It really ties the exterior together and I know it's going to look really good once we paint everything.
The bus is looking great! I hope your baby boy’s birth has gone well, since videos are usually a bit time delayed. Mariajose you looked marvelous in the last scene as you presented the tour!
Thank you Vickie! We filmed the first and the last part of the video just the other day, but you'll be surprised, this little booger still isn't here. We went to the Dr and she was Already Dilated, then a few days later even more. The Dr. said we'd have the baby over the weekend, last weekend, and that didn't happen. So on Wednesday we went back and she was a little more dilated, but baby wasn't as low down, so we're scheduled on the 12th for induction at 40wks, but he could come any moment now hahaha. Little guy is just hanging out there growing!
oh my. Yes babies come when they are ready. It’s so hard to wait! I wish you guys well while you wait and that everything goes well when he decides to make his appearance!
Great video on the bus conversion. Maybe the bus won't be 100% completed by the time Baby Boy arrives. But, you guys are so blessed because you do have a home to bring him home to. And, I know you guys are thankful for that!! I live in middle Tennessee, as well. We're up north on the Kentucky line. The weather in TN can be brutally humid. So, I understand why you wanted/needed 2 air conditioners!! The recent tornados have not been fun either. We had a tornado touch down about 40 feet from our home at the beginning of May. I know you guys will have smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on the bus. I would also suggest a NOAA weather radio for your bus home. We sure were grateful for our radio on May 8th. Here's hoping and praying for a quick, safe, and healthy labor and delivery for Mom and Baby Boy. And, Dad...no worries...everything will come together when it's supposed to. Good luck 🍀 in the coming days!! 🙂👍❤
Wow!! It’s definitely easier to understand the layout with the walls up. SO COOL! And, Maria Jose I love the arched door in your room. That’s such a beautiful feature. También, I’m so nervous about the baby!!! It’s almost here. Abrazos!!!! - Coni
Thank you! I'm trying to find all of the footage from installing the diesel heaters so we can put together a nice in depth video. We're going to have this little one any day now.
If U dont plan on traveling in bus all the time why build it like this ?? Or build it at all . I was hoping for more adventures . Ill still be here no matter what U post because I LOVE U GUYS 💓 💗 💖. God Bless Ya'll n Especially the little Baby....
Thanks so much Tammy and we love you too. I'm sure we'll travel in it at some point, but we knew we'd want to be stationary in it somewhere for the foreseeable future. We love small spaces and building stuff, but with a growing family we needed a bigger rig for if we ever decide to travel again which is really why we chose to build this to begin with. The reason we don't plan on traveling in the near future is because we just wouldn't be able to make it happen financially right now, if we're being totally honest. We put a lot of our stuff on hold for a while building the house and now not a single one of our social accounts is producing enough money to sustain a week on the road every few months, let alone going full-time again so we've been looking at other ways to make a living while being plopped in one area. While we have things like Patreon and Channel Memberships, we've always felt really REALLY weird about actually mentioning them in any serious manner because we understand truly how much work goes into every dollar in someone's bank account that they've worked for. We're really praying our shop builds / van & bus conversion pick up super soon otherwise I (Chase) will be back at a normal job before too long, which is all okay. We've had an awesome 6 year run of being wild and free.
@mariajoseandchase thanks for responding. I understand plus u have the little amigo coming 💙. Love U Guys .God Bless Ya'll. Mucho Love Always ❤️ 😍 ❤❤
Love what you are doing.. I am sure I missed it somehow but can’t seem to see where the kids will be when you drive??
Hey friend! Initially, we aren't planning to travel much with this rig, but if we do, we'll likely travel separately to have an extra vehicle with us. So both kiddos would be in their carseats with Mariajosé behind the wheel.
What is the van towing capacity???
Towing capacity on the 2500 is 5000lbs
Nice build and y’all are precious
Thank you so much!
Nice build. A Murphy bed is going to be a must in my build.
Oh heck yeh! We love a good murphy.
Name the baby Jace a combination of your Maria Jose and Chase.
Hey guys! I love your videos and build out for your van… just wondering where you found the struts for this rack. I want to do something similar, but I have no clue what they are called or where to find them! Any help you can provide would rock. Thank you for sharing your journey!
Hey Peter! We saved a ton of money compared to using components a lot of people choose to, like 80/20 extruded aluminum or the actual roof rails for sprinter vans. To answer your question: We used Superstrut for our rails. It's also referred to as Unistrut, depending on where you buy it, Lowe's, Menards, or Home Depot. They come in a few sizes and gauge thicknesses. These are slim profile (so not at tall in reference to height) 12ga galvanized steel. I think both combined cost around $40-$50 USD. Hope that helps!
How about the name Joshua Lee? You all loved going to Joshua Tree so much, and the name is very handsome.
PS can I come play with your plasma cutter
Dudeeeee excellent work!! I literally just installed that exact same all black della unit in my new garage office I recently built. I told Heather never again! I can't believe you wrestled those copper lines through a bus. I just had to go like 8 feet through a single block wall and it was still horrendous to deal with. They are so efficient though so the family will be super comfortable in any weather!
I just found your channel today on tiny homes. I'm going to be building my 1st skoolie this year. Definitely a helpful channel for my R&D.
Heck yeah! If you have any specific or nonspecific questions along the way just let us know. We’d be stoked to help.
@@mariajoseandchase Thank you!
That is going to be one very cool bus once it gets all put together and buttoned up! Two minis plus spray foam, y'all will be a rolling meat locker!! Good work getting those guys installed!!

Hey there. Well, my first name is Dion. My middle name is Paul. Do you distinct breaking? You always try those too. My first name is from a Greek God and French middle name, Irish Scottish German American, you know. For the baby's name, OK.

@@mariajoseandchase W.O.W. Well, it is what it is. You can't stop Baby Boy when he's ready to make his appearance. Hoping, most of all, that Mommy and Baby Boy have a healthy and safe delivery! The rest will fall into place. Prayers for the whole family in the coming days!! 🙏🏻❤🙏🏻❤🙏🏻❤🙏🏻❤🙏🏻❤
Yes!! Just knowing how awesome and beautiful and practical the last tiny home on wheels was… This one is coming along nicely! A nursery!! Baby boy is going to be so excited!! Keep Up The Great Work!! ..did I mention the Tio model I need for my Skoolie! I will write a big check!
